Ingredients explained

From pH adjusters to emulsion stabilisers, product ingredients can be complicated.
That’s why we’ve made sure ours are easy to understand. Find out exactly what’s in your bottle and why.

Carriers dilute and deliver other ingredients. We use Aqua, which provides hydration
to the skin and hair. It can also improve its appearance, texture and health.

A shortening of the phrase ‘surface-active agent’. These ingredients are essential because they help oil and water to mix. They also loosen dirt and grime and areimportant for the creation of foam.

These smart ingredients help to attract and retain moisture – in other words, they help to hydrate the skin. Our formula contains naturally derived Glycerin.

These are added to help control the thickness of our products. We use Sodium Chloride and Hydroxyethyl Cellulose. Both are naturally derived viscosity controlling agents.

The skin has a natural pH balance of 5-5.5. pH adjusters help to ensure the final product is going to work with the skin’s natural pH and reduce the risk of irritation.

No one wants their product to become contaminated while they are using it, and preservatives help to prevent this. The preservatives we use are mild and broad spectrum. We use them at low but effective concentrations

The European Union’s Cosmetics regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 lists 26 fragrance allergens which are commonly used in cosmetics, such as Citral, Linalool and Limonene. Manufacturers must list these on packaging. All The Kids Bathing Co. products have been thoroughly tested and are suitable for sensitive skin.

These clever compounds react with the metal ions in your shower water (and in the product). They help to remove and prevent the build-up of impurities. They also maintain the stability and effectiveness of formulations.

An emulsion stabiliser is used to help the oil and water phases form a stable emulsion. Spotted Cetearyl Alcohol on your bottle? This mixture thickens the product and gives it texture.

You’ve probably heard of emollients, as they are often used in moisturising
products. Emollients condition the skin and hair so that it feels soft and smooth.

You’ll often see solvents, such as C15-C19 Alkanes, on the labels of cosmetic products. They can serve several functions, including dissolving and dispersing other ingredients and influencing the texture and consistency of the product. If they have emollient properties, they can also help soften and moisturise the hair or skin.

  • Proudly made in England

We understand that it’s important to know where your products are made – and who by. That’s why we choose to make the entire The Kids Bathing Co. in England.

  • Suitable for sensitive skin

We set out to create a grown-up product specifically for children. All our products are dermatologically tested, paediatrician-approved and suitable for sensitive skin. Psst! Adults with sensitive skin can use them too.

  • Free from sulphates

Sulphates are active ingredients (surfactants) often used in bathing products (you’ve probably seen sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium coco-sulphate in shower gels or shampoos before). However, they have been known to strip the hair of its natural oils and can even irritate the skin and scalp. Our products use gentler ingredients instead.

  • No more tangles

Tangles cause tears and make haircare routines a battle. Our carefully formulated kids' conditioners contain Provitamin B5 (known as panthenol), aloe vera and camellia oil. These ingredients help to minimise tangles and knots, making it easier to comb through your child’s hair after washing.

“My daughters hair was easier to comb and looks so shiny and healthy.”
